Regular undergraduate student
Each undergraduate student will be enrolled at a preparatory school designated by MEXT for a one-year intensive course in the Japanese language and other subjects necessary for preparation for proceeding to university. The preparatory course lasts for one year. A grantee who has completed the preparatory education will go on to a university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination.
The university whose examination a grantee will take is decided by MEXT in consultation with the university and the preparatory school and in comprehensive consideration of the results of the academic examinations in the primary screening held in his/her home country, academic achievement at the preparatory school, the grantee's proposed major subject, and the receiving capacity of the university. Therefore, please note that applicants who wish to enter Chiba University may not necessarily be able to take the entrance examinations for Chiba University.

(Please note that Undergraduate Schools do not accept the MEXT University-recommended applicants. Only graduate school students are eligible to apply for the MEXT University-recommended scholarship.)

This selection is called “Scholarship Pre-arrival Application System”.
Attention: In addition to this selection process, applicants need to pass an entrance examination for the graduate school in which they wish to enroll. The selection and entrance exam are separate!
[Enrollment Procedure]
1.Find a professor in your desired research area and contact him/her by e-mail to obtain his/her approval. Then apply for “Scholarship Pre-arrival Application System”.
*Direct applications from students will NOT be accepted. Please obtain the approval first.
*Please find the professors list and their information on the website of each faculty and graduate school.
*The approval does not necessarily mean that you can become a MEXT scholarship student.
